About Me
I graduated from the University of Waikato in 2004 with a Bachelor of Computing and Mathematical Sciences (BCMS) with First Class Honours. In 2005 and 2006 I worked for MediaLab Ltd. and the WAND Network Research Group at Waikato University. My primary responsibility during this time was the implementation of a wireless mesh network for broadband internet delivery in rural areas. As part of this project I led the development of a configuration system designed to make configuration and management of rural wireless networks much easier.
Currently I work for the Google Ireland as a Linux Systems Administrator. It's a great job, and a great place to work with a continual stream of new and interesting challenges and projects. The scale of Google's infrastructure is simply mind-blowing.
I am also an active member of the global Open Source community, see the Software page in the sidebar to the right for details of the code and patches that I've written. I concentrate my efforts on the Debian, Quagga and PHPwiki projects. I've served two terms on the WLUG Linux Users Group commitee. I remain active in WLUG and help out with maintaining the groups Wiki and servers.
When I'm not doing all of the above, I maintain a healthy work / life balance and enjoy outdoor activites such as snowboarding and tramping. I have a strong Christian faith and regularly attend St Marks church in Dublin.
That's it for now
Matt
