Just to point out to other late-comers that the Launchpad situation is IMHO now much better, and actually working quite smoothly. For your regular newbie problems, the Ubuntu forums are probably a better place to start than Launchpad, though.

... Aside: Tee hee, this form wants me to "please enter a valid e-mail address". Problem is, I just did, only it happens to contain e.g. a plus and some equals signs. Welp, okay, I'll register as billg@microsoft.com instead then.

I am a total no nothing about linux. I got
ubuntu installed but it hung up at 57% and left
some programs not working.
I keep seeing the "did you run gst-register" message.

I don't even know where to go to run this.
Would you mind pointing me in the right direction?

cheers.
I did consider the fact that I actually got on the internet
a major success with the linux install. I am fine around
windows but wanted to try something new so I loaded up a pentium 3 compaq laptop that was laying around unused. Pretty speedy compared
to xp. If i can deal with the issue above I will be happy happy.

I have to agree I have been trying to install ubuntu onto my new pc and dual boot it with... So far I have seen little in the way of a fix... If you see anything I'd much appreciate any info... I know this comment my be a bit late but Ive been taking little notice these last few weeks after my first intensive search for a fix... I hope things have improved...
