\section{Professional Experience}

\job{Site Reliability Engineer}
{Apr 2007 - Present}
{Google, Dublin, Ireland}

\noindent I work in the Site Reliability Engineering team for Google looking
after a wide range of systems and software. Further information on this role is
available on request. \\

\job{Network Administrator}
{Oct 2004 - Mar 2007}
{WAND Network Research Group, University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand}

\noindent My key responsibility in this role was to maintain several large
community networks with over 100 802.11 wireless repeaters and end-clients. I
accomplished this by leading the design and development of a configuration
system and associated system infrastructure. This system automates common
network administration tasks and allows the day to day operation of the network
to be handled by community volunteers. \\

\noindent \textbf{Key Achievements:}
\jobItem{Designed, implemented and maintained TCP/IP networks
providing reliable Internet access using OSPF and BGP routing protocols}

\jobItem{Developed a custom Linux distribution derived from Debian for use on
low power embedded wireless repeaters with limited resources}

\jobItem{Maintained and secured Debian Linux servers running many common ISP
services}

\jobItem{Led a team consisting of two Junior Developers}

\jobItem{Deployed networks to some of the remotest schools in New Zealand, the
rural Transkei in South Africa and Pacific Islands}

\job{Research Analyst - 50\% role concurrent with above position}
{Oct 2004 - Jan 2006}
{MediaLab Limited, Wellington, New Zealand}

\noindent For the duration of this employment 50\% of my time was contracted
to The University of Waikato in the role described above. In this position I
designed and undertook network measurement projects under contract for the CTO
of a leading New Zealand telecommunications company. My responsibilites also
included preparing submissions and leading the companies involvement in
industry regulation activites with the Commerce Commission. This role allowed

\job{Student Research Assistant}
{Nov 2001 - Sep 2004}
{WAND Network Research Group, University of Waikato, Hamilton, New Zealand}

\noindent During my studies I was employed part time by a wireless
research project (CRCnet). In this role I was the primary administrator of the
CRCnet wireless networks, both in the Waikato region and in other areas of the
country. My competence and ability to work as part of a team in this job lead
to permanent employment with the group when I completed my degree.
